One of my passions over the years has been cooking.  I started when I was in my teens.  I use to watch my mother cook...I never cooked...only watched.  I believe through all that watching, I've become a fabulous cook.

So my daughter, Savannah, who is married with three young kids said to me, "Please show me how to cook.  I'm tired of ordering out or cooking frozen food in the microwave."

When Savannah was younger, I asked her to watch me and learn how to cook, but she never had the desire or she claimed she was too busy.  So now she needs me!

Alright...I'm retired, so I have the time to do this.  She picks the recipe, then on Mondays she will come to my house for a lesson.  I will buy the ingredients and then show her how to make the meal.  She will do all the work and only receive instructions from me.

During the next 11 weeks, you'll see my daughter who needed help boiling water and making toast, become the next Rachel Ray.

  1. I had that same story with my mom too. She always told me to watch her when she cooking in the kitchen. Sometime I did watch her and the other time I didn't because I had homework or work. Sometime I do wish I had watch her a lot in the kitchen when she was cooking when I was young and thank god I have that chance because I'm living with my mom and I can watch her 24/7 lol. I did learned something new and that is MEATBALL CHILI STEW

  2. Awesome! That is great that your daughter wants to learn now. I have three siblings and my younger brother is becoming a chef. He currently goes to Burlington County College and his studies involve practicing recipes. Which means my siblings, parents, and I get to be taste testers! :)

  3. My mom never told me to watch her cooking. I guess mostly because of stereotypes... anyway, it didn't stopped me from learning how to cook. Since I've been living by myself at an early stage -student life... sigh-, I had to learn a few recipes unless I wanted to keep eating frozen meals for the rest of my life. I love food, trying different things, traveling and discover new flavors... so instead of dreaming of it or paying for it in expensive restaurants, I search for new recipes and try to follow them (every time I have the free time to do it). I come from a mediterranean country, where it's well known the mediterranean diet (a very rich and healthy diet -not sure if sangria would be included here though lol). We cook very often there so I also cook here spanish mediterranean recipes for my friends. It's going to be interesting follow the progress of your daughter at same time than I can learn something new from you.

  5. I'm going to have to keep a close eye on this blog, I may know how to boil water to make pasta or hard boiled eggs, but that's as much cooking knowledge as I have. I'm good at 'heating' food, like frozen pizza, chicken nuggets, or fish sticks.

  8. Myself... My story is interesting with cooking. Mom never necessarily told me to watch her and learn how to cook. I just kind of picked it up. I really enjoy cooking, too! Though most of my cooking anymore is of the Crock Pot variety. If I'm lucky someone even remembered to turn it to warming mode before I get home so the food is not COMPLETELY burnt. It'll be nice to see if I can pick up some new recipes I can try here though :D
